www.bestbuymobile.com The Best Buy Mobile team demonstrates how to set the automatic brightness adjustment for your Blackberry screen. By doing so, your screen will automatically adjust its brightness based on your environment, thus extending your Blackberrys battery life. Austin Hi Im Austin, from Riverdale, Utah, today I want to show you a really cool feature of the BlackBerry to extend the battery life of your phone. One of the really cool functionalities of the BlackBerry is that it has an automatic back light dimmer. What that does for you, is it automatically adjust the brightness depending on where youre at. Its one simple step that will actually extend your battery life, maybe by one or two days depending on how long you use it. What you want to do is go into the main menu here and go over to your options menu. Once you select your options menu, look for the tab that says Screen/ Keyboard and you select screen and keyboard and what you do is come down to where it says Automatically Dim Back Light. Turn it on, exit out and youre all set up. So now, whether you stay inside, go outside, day or night, your BlackBerry is going to adjust the brightness according to your environment and what thats going to do for you is save on your battery life and extend your phones performance.

Question by confusedBoi: Buying a nice cell phone without a contract for cingular. any tips?
I am a senior in high school. going on to college next year. This phone will be my college phone. i currently have a sim card from cingular(AT&T). but i dun’t have text as of now. Which phones do you prefer? i was thinking blackberry. any suggestions or tips? what does it mean when it is unlocked or locked.

Answer by #1 Mustang Fan
If you are only planning to use it as a phone Blackberries are OK, but if you plan on using and data other than text messages they can be expensive as Blackberries require a seperate Blackberry data plan to do anything such as email or anything internet related, even ringtones. These data plans start at and go up. As far as an unlocked phone, again you need to be careful. The only thing that will be guaranteed is that it will make and receive calls. Any and all data can be a crap shoot with unlocked phones. We can sometimes get some data working but not others. It really depends on what you are planning to use them for.

Question by unean_amigo: What are the advantages of using a Macbook over a Windows laptop? Is it really better than Windows?
I am about to go abroad for graduate studies and searching for a new notebook. My old laptop was an Acer that has Vista OS. I’m considering changing to a Macbook, but I am unsure. Your tips would be helpful.

The only reason to get a Mac is if you like Mac OS and want to run Mac-only software. Otherwise, there’s no reason to get a Mac as there are no advantages to it other than the fact that you get to use Mac software (at the cost of being able to run Windows software conveniently)

Question by rammoosh: A Toshiba laptop tips on battery?
I have a Toshiba L40-137. It’s quite new but it doesn’t seem to last longer than an hour when I remove the power cable. Is that the way it should be?

The problem is that the laptop manual is all in German so I couldn’t understand how to deal with it. Could somebody please tell me how to charge it, what bottons to press and so on?

I’m new to laptops in general. So, any tips you can share with me?

Thanks in advance

To maximize laptop battery power, you should:

+Eliminate all programs in the background that are unnecessary (ie a webcam manager, when you don’t actually have the webcam connected)
+Turn down the brightness (normally it’s a keyboard combination, like FN plus up or down)
+Enable “maximize battery” or whatever preset that came installed on the PC. My girlfriend’s Toshiba had one that you could press FN and the key with the lightbulb icon and it changed modes from Max to normal to max battery to DVD.

Definitely check to make sure your battery is charging to maximum capacity. That Toshiba I mentioned once had a lemon battery that would only charge to 33%. Bestbuy, where she bought it and got a replacement plan for it, allows for 1 battery replacement per year or something like that. New dual core processors, especially mobile ones, should last at least 2-3 hours on battery.

To charge the laptop, simply plug in the laptop while it’s off or on. Nothing else required. If it’s off, the battery will charge faster, but the battery charges in like 2-3 hours while on too. Most lithium ion batteries do a “spurt” charging, where it charges to ~85% in 1 hour, then trickle charges the other 15% in another hour or so.

You can probably find the laptop instructions online. Just search for the laptop model.

Question by Marko Charmed Fan: Good tips for a new laptop user?
So, I plan on buying myself a laptop, and I wonder if you have any tips since I don’t know much about laptops. How much should (can) I use him a day? I hear overheating can be a problem, so any advice for that? I heard I can also have problems if I don’t clean him (which of course I don’t know how to do)… So, what are some tips and advices you would give me?

Best answer:

Answer by Mark
Get an antivirus – even a free one like Avira Personal helps. The one that comes with your laptop is only a 30 days trial.

Never put your laptop on a blanker or carpet otherwise it may overheat.

Question by mets 07: I jumped in the ocean with my ipod but it was only submerged for around 30 seconds. ANy tips?

call Apple and see if they can replace the battery or whatever… if it voided your warranty you could go buy a battery and replace it yourself… there is a book called How To Do Everything With Your iPod and iTunes and it teaches you how to replace the battery yourself. If it is an old iPod (4th gen or below) I would suggest you get a new one. If the battery replacement doesn’t work then you need a new iPod.
